Joep Gorgels is a senior banker and shipping executive with a wide range of leadership roles in shipping, the energy transition, and finance under his belt. He joins as senior advisor shipping, to further facilitate Greenstar's growth.

Previously, Joep spent more than two decades with ABN Amro Bank, as Managing Director Global Transportation and Logistics and Country Executive Norway. He is co-director (CFO/CBDO) of EST-Floattech at the moment, providing maritime energy storage systems. He has similar advisory roles at Value Maritime and Onboard.

“We are very proud that Joep has joined us – his huge network and expertise in the shipping and finance sectors will further fuel Greenstar’s growth,” says Max Spanjer, co-founder and Managing Partner, Greenstar Capital. “The combination of Joep’s knowledge, network and his drive to implement innovative solutions for decarbonizing the shipping industry, make him an excellent addition to the Greenstar team”.

After leaving ABN AMRO last April, Joep embarked on a mission to decarbonize shipping and is now fulfilling several leadership roles around the topic. “I am pleased to help Greenstar Capital growing their services within the maritime sector. Greenstar Capital offers knowledge and expertise to several companies making it possible to comply to new EU ETS regulations. They add lots of value to a simpler process and improved positioning trough their fund”.

About Greenstar Capital

Greenstar Capital offers innovative hedging solution around the energy transition and helps companies to achieve their ESG targets and compliance.

Greenstar Capital offers the first fund in the EU that invests in physical carbon allowances. An investment in the Greenstar Capital EU ETS fund can be an elegant interim solution and natural protection against the rapidly rising prices of the EU carbon allowances (EU ETS).

No proprietary infrastructure is needed and currently the fund beats the rising EU ETS market with an additional 5.5%. When needed hedges can be redeemed in the form of physical allowances or cash.

Bart Kas, Managing Partner expects Joep's joining will help shipping companies: "Joep's experience and deep understanding of the shipping industry combined with our knowledge of the carbon and energy markets, should be of great added value for the shipping industry - especially regarding the challenges around decarbonization the shipping sector is facing in the near future”.
